We may be in the depths of winter, but we can still save energy while staying warm. Enbridge Gas and Union Gas have announced several free Ontario-wide programs that will help qualified co-ops and their members save money and energy this winter.
Enbridge Gas
Enbridge Gas has a no-fuss application program that will allow some co-op members to winterproof their units. To qualify, you must be an individual household that heats with natural gas and pays its own gas bill. Click here to apply or for more information about the Home Winterproofing Enbridge Gas Program.
You or your co-op may be able to save through Enbridge Gas’s Social Housing Providers Program. You can apply as an individual housing co-op resident or as a co-op that provides housing for income-qualified households.
This is a free program, but your co-op must meet the following requirements:
- The co-op is an Enbridge customer.
- Homes are heated by natural gas.
- The buildings range in age from 30 to 35 years (built between 1984 and 1989).
- Eligible units are detached, semi-detached or townhouses/row houses.
- Residents of these units meet specific income criteria, either receiving social assistance or under a ceiling for total household income.
Co-ops planning upcoming renovations through the Home Energy Conservation Program will be able to apply for up to $5,000 in Enbridge incentives. To be considered, your co-op has to complete at least two of the qualifying upgrades. Customers who do more than two that may receive an additional $250 bonus.
Union Gas
Co-op members can also apply to Union Gas’s free Home Weatherization Program. To qualify, you need to pay your own gas bill and live in a unit built before 1975, heated with natural gas. Click here to view the additional requirements Union Gas has outlined.
Union Gas is also offering their customers a chance to apply for up to $5,000 in renovation rebates through their Home Reno Rebate Program for detached and semi-detached houses, town houses and mobile homes that heat with natural gas. To be considered, your co-op needs to conduct an energy assessment and, of course, has to be a Union Gas customer. In addition, your co-op must complete at least two qualifying upgrades. Customers who successfully carry out more than two could receive an additional $250 bonus.
